Who better than double Olympic gold medallist and Britain’s most successful female swimmer Becky Adlington for our Chester Le Street Club member Ian Hornby to turn to for some top tips for the swimming part of a triathlon?

Ian, who is competing in the Northumbrian Triathlon on June 19, was lucky enough to be in the club when Becky was visiting to see her SwimStars children’s
learn-to-swim programme in action. So, he took the opportunity to chat to Becky to get some words of wisdom and advice from the gold standard swimmer.

The inaugural Northumbrian Triathlon comprises a gruelling 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile cycle and a 13.1 mile run.
It will take in the stunning and challenging Kielder Water and Forest and involve conquering the beautiful waters and terrains that give Northumberland and Kielder
its unique character.

Ian said: “I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Becky in the club. It was too good an opportunity to miss to get some advice from one of the world’s best
“She was incredibly supportive of my ambition to complete the triathlon and gave me a few pointers.
“I realise preparation is key and that regularly visiting the health club and being guided by its expert staff on what exercise routines I need to do to optimise my
fitness and stamina, have a massive part to play.”

Club general manager Nicola Turner said: “Ian has been putting in a lot of time and effort in the lead-up to the triathlon and we hope all his hard work pays off
on June 19.”
